What is a master's in real estate?
A master's in real estate, also called a real estate management master's, is a Bac+5-level degree that provides training in managing, developing and enhancing the value of real estate assets, from lettings management to transactions, by way of development and valuation. At Excelia Business School, it takes the form of a Master of Science (MSc) taught in Tours, and is part of the full range of Excelia Business School's Master of Science (MSc) programmes, which cover several fields of specialisation.
State-accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education, this degree leads to the Grade de Master and is listed on the RNCP (France's National Register of Professional Certifications) at level 7, like all of our degrees listed on the RNCP. Added to this is a quadruple accreditation (EQUIS, AACSB, AMBA and EFMD Master), shared by fewer than 1% of business schools worldwide: a mark of academic rigour that carries as much weight on a CV as with an employer abroad. The real estate careers accessible after an MSc
Real estate is often reduced to the sale of properties. In reality, the sector opens up four families of careers, all of which Excelia Business School's real estate MSc covers: asset and wealth management, transactions, development and promotion, valuation and advisory.
- Asset and wealth management: real estate wealth manager, property manager who handles the day-to-day lettings and administrative management of a property on behalf of its owner, asset manager responsible for overseeing the growth in its financial value, co-ownership manager
- Transactions: estate agency manager, commercial property adviser, property negotiator
- Development and promotion: land development officer, real estate programme manager, property developer
- Valuation and advisory: property valuer, real estate strategy consultant
Emerging roles complete this landscape, at the crossroads of real estate and the sector's current transitions: facility manager or corporate social responsibility manager in real estate. What you learn: law, taxation, finance and asset management
Excelia Business School's real estate MSc builds a foundation of cross-cutting skills: finance, property law, asset management, taxation, urban planning, negotiation.
You apply this foundation to real projects throughout the programme, to develop genuine expertise in real estate management.
This foundation takes a different form depending on the pathway followed: the MSc in Real Estate Management section details, course by course, its precise content and the work-study arrangements. To discover them, request the brochure for our programmes.
Entry level, work-study and application
The real estate MSc is completed in 12 or 24 months depending on your entry level: a first year of the master's if you arrive after a Bac+3, direct entry into the second year if you have already completed a Bac+4. Admission is by application file (CV and professional information sheet), supplemented by a motivation interview.
Part of the pathway is accessible through work-study at Excelia Business School: the training fees are then fully covered by the employer, as soon as the professionalisation or apprenticeship contract is signed.
Throughout the programme, Excelia Business School's Talent Centre supports you in building your employability: individual coaching, interview preparation, work on your applications. The pathway concludes with an end-of-studies dissertation, which allows you to explore an issue in the real estate sector in greater depth before you enter the labour market.
