Training in entrepreneurship and innovation: who is it for?

A master's in entrepreneurship is for anyone who wants to launch a business, take one over, or steer innovative projects within an existing organisation. At Excelia Business School, it takes the form of a state-recognised Master of Science (MSc), leading to the Grade de Master and listed on the RNCP at level 7, as part of all of Excelia Business School's Master of Science (MSc) programmes.

The domain is aimed as much at students with an idea to build as at career changers who have come to give a methodical framework to a project that has already matured. This master's in entrepreneurship and innovation trains you in the approach itself: identifying an opportunity, building a business model, deciding under uncertainty. An approach that is useful for launching a business as much as for transforming the one that employs you.

What you learn: project management, financing, digital transformation

The foundation of the domain combines several skills, developed in contact with Excelia Business School's lecturer-researchers and professionals:

  • Project management
  • Financing business creation
  • Digital marketing
  • Digital transformation of organisations

You learn to build a financing plan, to structure a digital offering and to steer a project from start to finish, before putting these skills at the service of a business creation, a takeover or an innovation assignment: it is this interplay between method and project that forms the substance of the domain. Alongside the curriculum, project leaders can also draw on the XL Entrepreneur initiative at Excelia Business School.

Creating, taking over, or leading innovation within an organisation

A graduate of the Entrepreneurship domain does not have just one path ahead of them: they can create a business, take over one that already exists, or lead an innovation project within another organisation. The accessible roles reflect this diversity:

  • Entrepreneur or business founder
  • Business acquirer
  • Intrapreneurial project manager
  • Innovation officer
  • Business developer
  • Business unit manager

Whatever the outcome of the project, the degree keeps its value on the labour market: it is backed by Excelia Business School, whose quadruple accreditation (EQUIS, AACSB, AMBA and EFMD Master) places it among the fewer than 1% of business schools worldwide.

If you are wondering where your own project fits within this framework, discuss it directly with an Excelia Business School adviser.

Entry level, support and application

The MSc is completed in 24 months after a Bac+3 or equivalent, or in 12 months through direct entry into the second year after a Bac+4. Admission is based on an application file and a remote motivation interview, without requiring a project that has already been formed; the pathway concludes with an end-of-studies dissertation.

Part of the pathway is accessible on a work-study basis, with the training fees fully covered by the employer as soon as the contract is signed. The Talent Centre supports each student through one-to-one coaching, interview preparation and work on applications, as part of the broader framework of professionalisation at Excelia Business School.

This scheme is also open to people already in employment who wish to return to study in order to build their skills or develop their career path, a common profile in this domain, where a career change meets a project matured over a long period. The language of instruction, the campus and the precise rhythm are detailed on the MSc in Entrepreneurship and Business Innovation.

This domain is just one of the fields covered by the school's Bac+5 offering: discover all our programmes to compare the full range of pathways, or the international dimension of our programmes.

Do you already need to have a business project to apply?

No. Selection for the entrepreneurship MSc is based on an application file and a remote motivation interview, not on a business project that has already been formalised. The domain is aimed as much at someone who already has an idea as at someone who first wants to build their skills in project management, financing and digital transformation.

Can you create your own business during the programme?

Yes, this is one of the objectives of the domain. Students receive one-to-one support from lecturer-researchers and professionals to bring their project to life during their studies, whether it is a business creation, a takeover or an innovation project within an existing organisation.

What entry level do you need for an entrepreneurship MSc?

The MSc is completed in 24 months for a Bac+3-level degree or equivalent, or in 12 months through direct entry into the second year for a Bac+4 level. In both cases, admission is based on an application file and a remote motivation interview.

What careers are open after an entrepreneurship MSc?

Graduates of the domain become entrepreneurs or business founders, business acquirers, intrapreneurial project managers, innovation officers or business developers, in organisations ranging from the young innovative company to the large corporation.

Is the entrepreneurship MSc suitable for a career change?

Yes. Excelia Business School offers an admission scheme dedicated to people already in employment who wish to return to study in order to build their skills or develop their career path, which corresponds to some of the profiles in the Entrepreneurship domain.
