What are the management careers?
Working in management is not limited to running a company: management careers cover project and team steering, business development, finance, marketing, human resources or supply chain. Roles evolve according to your level of qualification and experience: more operational at Bac+3, they become more strategic at Bac+5, and can then lead to senior management roles.
What the word "management" covers
In the strict sense, management is concerned with steering the teams, projects and strategy of an organisation. Managing does not mean overseeing a single function: it means understanding several of a company's professions at the same time, in order to weigh up options and make the right decisions.
This steering skill does not always imply a line-management relationship, which explains why manager careers cover such different realities depending on the organisation. A sales engineer, for example, carries a complex commercial project by steering teams they do not directly manage, whereas a team manager organises the activity of a group of team members and coordinates their results on a daily basis. These two examples show the full breadth of the word "management", which is therefore not limited to senior management roles: it refers just as much to project management as to business development, human resources, management control or supply chain.
At Excelia Business School, a Bac+5 programme in management prepares you precisely for these supervisory roles, before opening the way, with experience, to broader responsibilities.

From your first job to senior management roles
Management roles evolve above all with your level of qualification and the experience gained in the field. At Bac+3, graduates of the Bachelor in Business first take up operational and sales roles, for example commercial development officer or marketing assistant, which give a first concrete experience of the field.
At Bac+5, graduates of the Master in Management (Programme Grande École) or of a Master of Science (MSc) gain access to more strategic roles, such as sales manager or consultant. With experience, these career paths can then lead to senior management roles, strategic steering or support for the transformation of organisations.
To specialise further, the Master of Science (MSc) programmes at Excelia Business School are organised by career area, each area bringing together several programmes that allow you to deepen one of these families.
