Overview
The level 2 project management training is aimed at project managers who have already had a first experience of project management. In two days, remotely, it works on what mastery of the techniques alone does not provide: getting decisions made, motivating a team and leading the change that a project brings.
Why choose the Project management performance course?
The project manager who comes to this level already knows the mechanics of a project. What holds them back often lies on the human side: obtaining a decision from a committee, maintaining the commitment of a team whose line manager they are not always, getting the transformations that the project imposes accepted. The Project management performance (level 2) course works on these three points with functional levers for action rather than hierarchical ones: those available to a project manager when the team they lead does not report to them.
The course pursues a two-stage objective: strengthening project performance through the team motivation levers, then optimising their deployment by leading change. Each day covers one of these two stages.
It is the second of the three project management levels of Excelia Business School's Executive Education Centre. Complementary, these three levels form a pathway designed to save time and costs, for your company as much as for your project managers. To take on this level, it is enough to have had a first experience of project management, or to have taken the Project management fundamentals (level 1) course.
What your project managers bring back to the office
Each of them leaves with an individual action plan, to be implemented in their own projects. Change management is worked on through a transformation project, by identifying the impacted populations and the support actions to plan: your project managers thus learn to anticipate the people the project affects and to choose how to support them.
Co-development, covered during the course, is implemented in their projects, and operational coaching sessions can extend the course for those who wish. If your company runs several projects at once, steering a project portfolio, at level 3, completes this pathway.
The skills targeted
At the end of the course, each of your project managers will be able to:
- Adapt their stance as a project manager: get decisions made, motivate teams, adapt their management to the team member's level of autonomy
- Lead change in transformation projects
Curriculum
You take the Project management performance (level 2) course in a virtual classroom session, via Teams, over 2 days, or 14 hours, at a rate of one module per day.
How you learn
You rely on four elements:
- Short theoretical sequences, followed together
- Practical work, in a small working team of 3 to 4 learners
- A practice workbook received before the course, which you share in the team rooms to carry out the exercises
- Operational coaching sessions in addition, if you wish
Each module comes with activities to build and test your knowledge, then a self-evaluation at the end of the session lets you measure your progress.
What the two days cover
The first day scopes the project, prepares the decision and mobilises the team; the second leads change and ends with your individual action plan. Each module below details one of these days.
Scope the project, get decisions made and mobilise the team
The day moves forward in three stages: scoping the project while building in the decisions to be made, preparing the steering committee that has to settle them, then mobilising the team by drawing on motivation and on each person's autonomy.
Module titles
- Kick-off: team formation, operating rules, programme
- Produce an overall approach to the project and punctuate it with deliverables and decisions to be made
- Prepare a steering committee, know how to make your case and get decisions made

- Adapt your management to the team member's autonomy
- Steer a brainstorming session
Lead change in a transformation project
You start from the principles of change management and apply them to a transformation project: who is affected, with what impacts, which support actions to plan, through to the change plan itself. The day ends with putting your individual action plan in place.

Funding
€1,200 net of tax for 2 days of training, or 14 hours in a virtual classroom.
What your company gains from it
With the Project management performance (level 2) course, your project managers are away for only two days, with no travel to arrange since it is taken remotely. The individual action plan that they put in place during the second day is ready to be applied as soon as they return. Having worked on the team motivation levers and on change management, they can better support your company's transformation projects. Those who wish to can continue with operational coaching sessions. For a pathway built around your company's context, discover tailor-made in-company training.
At Excelia Executive Education, we offer personalised support to help every profile — company, employee, self-employed person or public sector employee — to make their training projects a reality by drawing on the most suitable funding schemes.
FAQ
What does level 2 of the Project management course bring to an already experienced project manager?
The Project management performance (level 2) course aims to strengthen project performance through the team motivation levers, then to optimise their deployment by leading change. It brings the project manager to adapt their stance, by learning to get decisions made, to motivate their teams and to adjust their management to the autonomy of each team member.
What does the Project management performance (level 2) course provide on team motivation?
The Project management performance (level 2) course devotes a sequence of its first day to the real motivation levers and to how to take concrete action, followed by another on adapting management to the team member's autonomy. Motivating teams falls under one of the two skills targeted by the course: adapting one's stance as a project manager.
Does the Project management performance (level 2) course prepare you to get a steering committee to decide?
Yes. The Project management performance (level 2) course includes, on the first day, a sequence on preparing a steering committee, knowing how to make a case and getting decisions made. This sequence follows work on the overall approach to the project, punctuated with deliverables and decisions to be made.
How does the Project management performance (level 2) course approach change management?
Change management takes up the second day of the Project management performance (level 2) course. This day works on the principles of change management, the identification of the impacted populations and of the impacts of the project, concrete support actions and the construction of a change plan in a transformation project. The same day also covers the management of the project's stakeholders.
