Admissions

After the baccalaureate, you apply for almost all business programmes by making choices on Parcoursup. Bachelor, BBA International, the Master in Management (Programme Grande École), BTS or BUT sit side by side there, with very different durations and rhythms depending on the institution. This article helps you identify them and understand what sets them apart.

In brief
After the baccalaureate, business programmes accessible on Parcoursup range from the two-year BTS to the five-year Master in Management (Programme Grande École), via the BUT and Bachelor's degrees.
The choice comes down to three criteria: the length of study, the public or private status of the institution (displayed on each programme sheet) and whether the programme can be taken on a work-study basis.

What is Parcoursup?

Parcoursup is the national pre-enrolment platform for the first year of higher education, open to sixth-form students as well as students looking to change direction. It replaced the Admission Post-Bac website, with a single application and a single timetable for all the programmes applied for.

From this application, you can make up to 10 choices, with no obligation to rank them in order of preference, plus up to 10 additional choices for apprenticeship programmes. According to parcoursup.gouv.fr, the platform brought together nearly 25,000 programmes in 2026, under student status and apprenticeship.

What is the timetable for Parcoursup 2027?

The official Parcoursup 2027 timetable had not yet been published at the start of the 2026 academic year: it will be published on parcoursup.gouv.fr. From one year to the next, the main stages come round in the same order.

As a point of reference, here is how the 2026 session unfolded:

  • opening of the programme search engine, from 17 December 2025
  • registration and making choices, from 19 January to 12 March 2026
  • finalising the application and confirming choices, until 1st April 2026
  • main admission phase, from 2 June to 11 July 2026
  • additional phase, from 11 June to 10 September 2026

To prepare your choices without missing a step, as soon as the next session opens, our Parcoursup registration area dedicated to Excelia Business School supports you.

Which business programmes after the baccalaureate?

On Parcoursup, business programmes are first distinguished by their length, from the two-year BTS to Bac+5. Among the business BTS: operational business management, negotiation and digitalisation of customer relations, sales techniques. The BUT, meanwhile, is prepared over three years and combines theory, practice and compulsory internships; to find out what it leads to afterwards, see further studies after a BUT.

At Excelia Business School, you will find on Parcoursup:

Throughout the programme, business schools offer specialisations such as digital marketing, finance, international business, data and artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship or human resources management.

Public or private business school: what is the difference?

A public school awards national qualifications. On the private side, the level of recognition depends on each programme. Listing on the RNCP (France's National Register of Professional Certifications) guarantees that a qualification is state-recognised and identified as such by recruiters. The State accreditation, meanwhile, attests to the level and educational quality of a programme. The Grade de Licence or Grade de Master, finally, gives a university equivalence recognised in France and internationally. A business school's state recognition is therefore checked programme by programme.

Between the two, the institutes of business administration (IAE), attached to universities, offer administration programmes accessible via Parcoursup. The status of each institution (public, private under contract with the State, or private) is displayed directly on its Parcoursup sheet: the first thing to check before applying. Some private programmes are not on the platform; you can then indicate, in the application, whether you are also applying outside it.

Excelia Business School is a private higher education institution of general interest (EESPIG), with not-for-profit status and under contract with the State. Excelia Business School holds the quadruple accreditation (EQUIS, AACSB, AMBA, EFMD Master), which places it among the fewer than 1% of business schools worldwide.

Traditional programme or work-study?

On a traditional programme, you keep student status, with internships in companies to complement the theoretical training. On a work-study basis, you become an employee: you receive a salary, and your tuition fees are covered by the company that takes you on.

This choice is not decided after the fact: on Parcoursup, you can tick apprenticeship programmes as soon as you make your choices.

How to find your programme on Parcoursup?

The Parcoursup search engine is freely accessible, with no prior registration required: three steps are enough to identify the programmes that suit you.

  1. Open the search engine, freely accessible from parcoursup.fr
  2. Filter your search by type of institution, apprenticeship or not, type of programme and field of study
  3. Read the programme sheet: the acceptance rate, the number of places and the breakdown of admitted students by type of baccalaureate help you gauge your chances

On the map of programmes, Excelia Business School welcomes you on four campuses: La Rochelle, Tours, Orléans and Paris-Cachan. Once you have identified the programme, an example of a Parcoursup cover letter helps you write your motivated training project.

Frequently asked questions

What is post-baccalaureate?

Post-baccalaureate refers to all higher education accessible after the baccalaureate, whether it lasts two years, like a BTS, or five years, like the Master in Management (Programme Grande École). Most of these programmes go through Parcoursup for admission.

Do you have to rank your choices on Parcoursup?

No: Parcoursup does not rank your choices, they all count equally. This allows you to compare several business programmes without deciding from the outset.

How can you check a business school's status on Parcoursup?

Each programme sheet displays the institution's status: public, private under contract with the State, or private. Cross-check it with the qualification's recognition (RNCP, State accreditation or grade) before confirming a choice.

Which business programmes should you choose after the baccalaureate?

The choice mainly depends on the intended length: two years for a BTS, three years for a BUT or a Bachelor's degree such as the Bachelor in Business, four years for the BBA International, five years for the Master in Management (Programme Grande École) with post-baccalaureate entry. Each length corresponds to a different entry level into professional life.

What is the difference between a public and a private business school?

A public school automatically awards national qualifications, whereas a private school must have each qualification recognised separately (RNCP, State accreditation or grade). The school's status is therefore not enough to judge a programme: it is its own recognition that counts.
